The Northern Cape was hit hard by drought and small farmers found it increasingly difficult to feed their livestock. As part of a project that ELI delivered to a large power producing client, we assisted small farmers to see their livestock through the drought. Traditionally, in order to provide sufficient feed for animals, one would require vast pieces of land and ample water. ELI implemented green feed machines to overcome these challenges. Green feed is grown vertically in a controlled environment, using minimal water. In addition, feedlots were erected where small farmers can weigh, load, administer treatment and even sell their livestock to fellow farmers.
